Final Exam

This is a take home examination that must be submitted to your teaching assistant by Wednesday, December 16, 5pm, in order to receive credit for it. Those students who have discussion sections with Anna Alexander must submit their examinations to her email address (ara1@email.arizona.edu) and those students who have discussion sections with Diana Montaño must submit their essays in paper form to the box with her name on it in the mailroom of the History Department (215 Social Science Building). The deadline is the same for both electronic and paper examinations.

Write essays on two of the following questions. Each essay should be 750 to 1,000 words in length (that is three to four pages, with 1 inch margins, in Times New Roman and 12 point font). Be certain to include materials from the readings, the lectures, and the discussions in your answers. Each essay has a value of 50 points.

1. Discuss the strategies used by the students in 1968 in an effort to appeal to the general public in Mexico City in 1968 and the reaction to their efforts by various groups.

2. Discuss the Mexican Miracle, its origins, successes, and failures.

3.  Discuss the constitutional changes and political programs (including, for example, an end to the ideal revolutionary social types) that ended the Mexican revolution.

Those who choose to read the book on the 1985 earthquake in Mexico City can use to write the following essay:

4. Write an essay that discusses the individuals organized as community groups to respond to the crisis created by the 1985 earthquake.
