Thomas Andrews, an environmental, mining and labor historian, will be speaking on the origins of fossil-fuel dependency in the American West and the role of workplace environments in shaping mine- worker solidarity.
The author of the award-winning Killing for Coal: America’s Deadli- est Labor War, Dr. Andrews’ interdisciplinary research has been supported by the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Among the honors received for Killing for Coal are the Bancroft Prize, for the best book in American History; George Perkins Marsh Prize, for the best book in Environ- mental History; and the Clark Spence Award for the best book in mining history.
Dr. Andrews’ talk “Fossil Fuels, Mine Labor & Industrial Struggle: Making Sense of the Colorado Coalfield War” will take place on Tuesday, December 1st at 5:30pm in Chavez 110.
